The huge gallery of German fans erupted when their local hero leapt into third place on the second lap of the first moto and continued to cheer Jacobi each lap as he held an undisputed third to the finish and raised the expectation of a podium finish in his home GP. A hectic opening lap in race two left Jacobi tenth but he was soon making spectacular moves to advance to eighth. Looking for the next pass on the highly-technical track on lap five the front wheel lost traction and the German was left to work forward again from fourteenth to finish ninth, giving him fifth overall in the GP. He is now fifth in the championship standings.
Henry Jacobi: “It was a very special weekend here in Germany with so many fans behind me; it’s amazing to race in such an atmosphere! The first race went OK with a podium result but the second one was more difficult when I made some mistakes as the track was drying quickly in the warm weather; I also crashed one time. I was fourteenth when I could continue and made a few passes but it was not so easy here. At least I had good lap times and the speed was there; the fans wanted to see some battles and they seemed to be happy!”
Bud Racing Kawasaki's Mitchell Harrison had his best GP since joining the series in April as he claimed eighth overall from eighth- and tenth-placed moto finishes. And the American did it in style after gating sixteenth and eighteenth! A rapid series of passes during the early laps of race one saw him quickly through to ninth and after twelve minutes he advanced yet further to eighth, remaining unruffled through the closing laps as he successfully answered every challenge from the current world number three. Race two was less spectacular but equally effective as he made regular passes throughout the race. The GP motos were less fortunate for his Bud teammate Brian Moreau; the French teenager, fifth in Qualifying the previous day, fell on the opening lap of each race and again later to miss the points.
Mitchell Harrison: “I felt amazing all weekend and my riding showed that; I was just missing good starts to do even better. I’m so happy with my Bud Racing Kawasaki; the chassis, engine and suspension are really good and I feel I’m really learning over here! I had good speed all weekend and just kept pushing and pushing. It was a really good track, a lot like High Point back home in the States with a lot of ruts and opportunities to pass and suited my riding style; if you were smooth and patient with the track it treated you well but now we need to work on the starts. I’m really excited to head to Indonesia; I’m sure it will be a cool experience.”
Adam Sterry of F&H Racing had another turbulent GP. A first lap collision in the opening moto saw him crash over a berm on the opening lap, the Welshman then defiantly recovering from last to eighteenth despite a painful hand and damaged bike. He raced solidly from fifteenth to ninth in race two before losing two places when he fell late in the race after touching with teammate Jacobi. Sterry retains eighth in the series standings.
Adam Sterry: "That was a hard-earnt three points in race one. I had a collision with another guy on the first lap, hit a mound on the outside of the track and went over the bars; I hit my head, grazed my hand and bent the bars."
Bike It DRT Kawasaki's Darian Sanayei dropped four positions on lap five of race one after moving forward to eighteenth but charged again to take sixteenth place five laps from the end as young Brazilian teammate Gustavo Pessoa narrowly missed the points after holding eighteenth place for much of the race. Sanayei held an early top ten placing in race two until he had to withdraw from the race.
Roan van de Moosdijk of the F&H Racing Team missed his third consecutive FIM European EMX250 Motocross Championship overall victory by just half a second after a scintillating final charge in the second moto on a well-prepared track. Third leaving turn one the Dutch teenager quickly snatched second and executed a perfect pass on the series leader to take the lead at the end of the first complete lap. Relinquishing the lead again two laps later Roan kept the pressure on the leader as the duo moved ever further clear of the opposition, lapping faster and faster as the race went on. Entering the final lap he was on the leader's rear wheel and, setting the fastest lap of the race, almost got alongside a couple of times to miss the moto and overall win by just half a second. He remains third in the series standings, just thirteen points from the pacesetter, but can look forward confidently to the next round in the Belgian sand. Kawasaki has also advanced to within two points of the lead in the Manufacturers' Championship standings.
Roan van de Moosdijk: "I didn't get a good jump at the gate but I held a tight line at the first turn and could take the lead before the end of the first lap. I felt I was the strongest today but Rubini passed me back after a couple of laps and I just ran out of time at the end even though I set the fastest lap of the race on the final lap. Still, I'm happy with second on this track and look forward to the next round in the sand."
