Aside from the greater engine performance a longer exhaust header pipe (457 mm to 557 mm) offers increased low-mid range torque while the Akashi engineers also ensured that advanced ignition timing matches the engine changes. In terms of power feeling, a new magneto rotor with an increased moment of inertia (9.5 kg·cm2 to 10.0 kg·cm2) contributes to a more racer-friendly power delivery.

Front and rear suspension setting updates contribute to improved cornering. On corner entry, greater front-end feedback contributes to a more planted feel. Increased ground-holding performance makes it easier to hold a chosen line through the corner. After exiting the corner, revised rear suspension settings contribute to stronger acceleration.

The thicker handlebar helps reduce vibration and shocks transmitted to the rider, while the new grip position (19 mm lower, 8 mm closer) helps put the rider in a position that makes it easier to weight the front wheel.
