5 December 2018 Further details of new 2019 Kawasaki W800 models released

Following the announcement of initial details at the EICMA show and recent sightings of the new W800 in the flesh, Kawasaki has now released further details of a two machine range for 2019.

The W800 Street and W800 CAFE are both A2 compliant with a target power figure of 35kw* and start a new era for the W family which harks back over half a century to the iconic W1 of 1966. Now the time has come to extend the legend with a fundamental update which sees both machines share a new chassis, brakes and numerous other details.

With a clever balance between easy to spot changes and subtle innovations - such as the assist and slipper clutch and redesigned meters - each model is ready to meet the desires of riders who appreciate a blend of irreplaceable tradition and logical innovation. For example, even though the frame is seemingly similar to the previous W800, the diameter of frame tubing and wall thickness has been increased which, when matched to large diameter wheels and an increased front fork at 41mm deliver a new level of handling reassurance.

Literally an illuminating feature is the adoption of all LED lighting from the chrome rimmed headlamp to the traditional styled rear light and indicators. Likewise, the fitment of ABS braking and a new rear disc have been achieved in keeping with the established classic lines while ensuring that Euro 4 compliance is achieved.

Recognising the current trend for traditional style retro machines, the authenticity of the W800 Street is undeniable with its classic upright-style handlebar and a low-profile seat, the simple, blacked-out design is sure to make a great base for further personalisation.

At the heart of each W800 is of course the 773 cm3 long-stroke engine tuned for low to mid-range performance delivering plenty of torquey feel-good power.  The rich engine pulse reminds riders that they are piloting a gutsy parallel twin engined machine while fuel injection delivers clean, efficient, hassle-free operation with twin mufflers carefully tuned to bring out the characteristic note of the 360º crankshaft engines configuration.
For the W800 CAFE all of the above applies plus the integration of a sleek 1960’s style headlamp cowl and evocative “M” shaped bars plus a two person café style seat to complete the racy look.
Available in Spring 2019, both the W800 Street and W800 CAFE show that the W legend lives on undiluted and fully equipped to once more dominate the retro classic class.
