A year after its initial introduction, the rally-inspired Kawasaki KLE500 has proven itself with its poised high-level balance between on-road comfort and confident capabilities across unpaved terrain.

Equipped with a tall windshield and compact fuel tank, evoking the look of a rally machine, the KX motocrosser-inspired flowing side covers and tail section create a sleek, dynamic silhouette. Now, for 2027, the KLE500 continues in standard and SE form, joined by a new SE Smartride version with an innovative self-engaging clutch system and tubeless tyres.

Kawasaki’s Smartride technology seamlessly integrates a compact mechanical centrifugal clutch within a conventional clutch assembly. This significantly reduces the need for clutch use in stop-and-go urban riding and removes the need for delicate half-clutch (“feathering”) control when pulling away from a stop. Put simply, with Smartride, clutch lever operation is no longer required when pulling away from stationary or when coming to a halt. The system is entirely mechanical and requires no electronics. As with a conventional manual-transmission motorcycle, while riding, the rider can still shift gears as normal using the clutch lever and shift pedal.  

Tough, adventure-ready equipment like a large-diameter 21-inch spoke front wheel and a skid plate visually express the KLE500’s readiness to tackle a wide variety of terrain. In the city – or on the open road – the KLE500’s upright riding position and excellent wind protection support relaxed, comfortable travel.  

Additionally, the KLE500’s lightweight, purpose-designed trellis frame works together with its torquey Parallel Twin engine to deliver accessible, rider-friendly performance plus composed control in everyday riding situations. And once the pavement ends, the KLE500 continues to impress with light, agile handling allowing the bike to respond intuitively, while the compliant suspension absorbs rough surfaces with composure.  

All 2027 model variants – including standard and SE versions – are also available from dealers as Edition machines in three distinct versions. These include a Rally version with Akrapovič Titanium Exhaust, Radiator Cover, Low Passenger Seat and USB-C Socket. Also, an Adventure Tourer with an Engine Guard and two 21 L Panniers plus supporting frames. The third, the Top Case version, includes a USB-C Socket plus a Rear Carrier with Top Case. All items included in the Edition range are factory-developed, approved genuine Kawasaki accessories.

Standard, SE or SE Smartride, the rally-inspired KLE500 in 2027 continues to offer the potential for genuine adventure plus refined convenience and comfort.
