Evoking its legendary namesake machine from the mid-1970s, the Z650RS has now been confirmed as part of the 2027 Kawasaki road bike range.

With a lightweight trellis frame and 649 cc Parallel Twin engine, the Z650RS is as quick and nimble as its Z650 Supernaked sibling. Being a retro sport model, though, the overall stance is less forward-leaning, with a more upright riding position delivering light, natural handling.

The retro-style fuel tank evokes iconic machines of the past yet is narrow between the knees, contributing to a slim ergonomic package, while the horizontal tail continues a theme completed by classic body side covers and exquisite badging details.

The European A2 licence-compliant Z650RS certainly has the show, and it is matched ably by the go: the Parallel Twin engine offers smooth, linear response and strong low-mid range performance, matched to favourable fuel economy. Kawasaki’s KTRC two-stage traction control comes as standard (one mode on the A2 version).

Chassis responsiveness is due in large part to a trellis frame that weighs a mere 13.5 kg. Suspension settings are tuned to deliver predictable, balanced handling for all types of riders and experience levels, along with a low 820 mm seat height. Even the wheels are a clever marriage of new and old, featuring flat spokes designed to look like classic wire-spoked items.

The day-to-day riding experience is enhanced by the classic appeal of the round LED headlight and the analogue-style speedometer and tachometer dials, complemented by a multi-functional LCD screen that balances retro-style looks with modern functionality.

To complete the Z650RS experience, a range of Kawasaki Genuine Accessories allows riders to personalise their machine, including a seat option 20 mm lower, crash protection items and embellishments such as a traditional grab rail and a full Akrapovič exhaust system.
