W230 and Meguro S1 to feature in 2026 Kawasaki range

Following a successful introductory year, both the W230 and Meguro S1 will feature in the upcoming 2026 Kawasaki range with a new Metallic Matte Dark Green livery for the W machine.

Revived in the early 2000’s, thanks to the now legendary W650, the W range traces its roots back to the mid 1960’s when Kawasaki unveiled its first “big bike”, the W1 which, in turn, was based on a former Meguro model thanks to Kawasaki acquiring the company previously.

Meguro itself is one of the longest standing names in Japanese motorcycle enjoying its centenary in 2024 and, as part of the Kawasaki 2026 range, still proudly present in the market.

Using a robust and characterful air-cooled, single cylinder engine mounted in a common chassis, each machine varies in its styling approach with the W230 model rightly promoted as an “original icon” while the Meguro S1 harks back to the popular 250cc SG model of the 1960’s.

Offering linear power delivery and ample torque throughout the rev range, especially at  low- to mid-rpm, the classic air-cooled engine offers smooth acceleration with a pleasant pulsating sensation, which is further bolstered by a balancer facilitating smooth overall progress. Special care was given to the design to produce classic looks for the modern engine, with sculpted parts including large, rounded fins on the cylinder head.

In terms of the chassis, compact proportions deliver smooth, easy handling for a wide range of riders.  The slim design also contributes to a relaxed reach to the ground for the rider’s feet. Being one of the lightest models in the 250cc retro sport category at 143 kg, the handling enhances rider confidence while an excellent power-to-weight ratio is another benefit. Having one of the lowest seat heights in their class, the W230 and Meguro S1 are suited to a wide range of riders, delivering a characteristic  W or Meguro experience to a broader audience.

Upfront ø37 mm telescopic forks contribute to well-balanced, composed handling on the street while at the rear a twin shock setup promotes a classic ride feel.  The rear shocks also offer simple to adjust 5-step preload adjustment. Steel fenders front and rear, a “pea-shooter” style exhaust, wire spoked wheels and old style twin meters underpin the authenticity while the two machines differ in styling and finish. For example, the fuel tank of the W230 is painted and adorned with a 3D W badge while the Meguro has a chromed fuel tank with painted panels and, appropriately, an evocative Meguro “M” and inverted M” badge. Even the look of the meters fitted to each machine and seat finishes differ such is the acute attention to detail.

Kawasaki is proud to protect and promote the originality and heritage of the W and Meguro brands while delivering the thrill of ownership to a new generation of riders. W230 or Meguro S1, it will be a tough call in 2026, but either way authentic good times are sure to be enjoyed
